I know we all want perfect weather and dance under the clear starry sky for our wedding especially in Hawaii…but sometimes rain happens. It sucks, but it doesn’t have to be.
Most times it’s gorgeous weather all year round in Hawaii, but we do have a rainy season. It’s not crazy rainy that would last for days or weeks, but it does rain here from time to time. Mostly a few passing showers from time to time. Our ‘rainy’ season here is from November – March.
I know you’ve heard that rain is good luck for your wedding. I thought it was just a thing that people say to make the couple feel better. Here we told couples it’s a Hawaiian blessing…but it’s true! I also read recently that rain on your wedding day is good luck because a knot that becomes wet is extremely hard to untie – therefore, when you “tie the knot” on a rainy day, your marriage is hard to unravel. Ahhh….I like that =)
Anyway, here are some tips if it rains on your wedding day
- Rent a tent – A nice clear tent if possible. If it’s rainy season, call before hand to make sure you have one reserved. I love a clear-top tent for an outdoor wedding in the rain. The tent provides completely unobstructed views of the sky and the raindrops make for some beautiful ambient noise. It’s also gorgeous for photographing reception as well. The light bounces nicely.
- Wait it out – Most times, our rainy weather here last briefly and passes after a few minutes and it’s blue skies afterwards. It’s weird, but that’s Hawaii weather. So pushing back your ceremony won’t be a problem, that way you and your guests can be comfortable as well. Maybe only about 1% of wedding plans change because of extreme weather.
- Use umbrellas – Why not?! The clear ones are cute! Use it as a prop for pictures too! I found a site that has 10 best umbrellas to use for your wedding, check it out HERE
- Get some great rain shots – Yes, let’s! If you don’t mind, I love doing it! Like I mentioned, umbrella photos are great! Get some cute rain boots too! I know you’ve spent a ton on your heels, but we can take pics of it with you wearing it when it’s dry and you can wear it for another event later.
Hope that helps! It’s our Fall weather here now and today I’ve just experienced rain in the morning, hot and sunny at lunch, with gnats here and there. Thank goodness for mask wearing =)
