First off I’m sure you’re wondering… PINKY?!
Yes…Pinky is my real name and it’s on my driver’s license. I admit, I did not like my name growing up because I used to get teased because of it. Now I just get a kick out of the response I get when I tell people my name. Starbucks will get my name wrong and write interesting names on my cup (kiki, hiki, veiki, nikki, ricki) . I don’t mind the different name calling though..as long as you don’t call me ‘thumb’ I’ll be ok (you get it right?) 😉
MY PHOTOGRAPHY
Well other than the funny name, I’ve been doing photography for 6 years now and based on Oahu, Hawaii. It started out as a hobby back in college and continuing with the love of capturing memories with my film camera, my phone, or whatever I have.
I got bit with the wedding bug a year later (after telling myself I didn’t want to try it). I was afraid to do it. But now I absolultely LOVE being part of the day and the vows always reminds me of my vows with my husband and keeps our marriage strong.
I’ve attended workshops to better myself as a wedding photographer and keep with with the trends. I also set up my own little workshop in the past to teach lighting during sunsets and just ‘hang out’ with fellow photographer friends.
I love capturing LOVE , capturing the moments filled with emotion and beauty. I love experiencing the day with my bride and groom and sharing it with everyone there. My priority is to provide you with once in a lifetime images that you’ll cherish forever. I’m a hopeless romantic and chances are I am hiding my tears behind my camera during your vows.
WHY I LOVE MY JOB AS A WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHER
- Capturing memories. I was afraid of wedding photography in the beginning because it really IS ‘ YOUR ONCE IN A LIFETIME MOMENT’ and I didn’t want to be the one to miss any of it. But when I’m in my ‘zone’, I get this rush (like when you’re on stage) and I think of the shots that I WANTED captured for my own wedding or WHAT I WANTED on my walls and the rest is history.
- Being creative with my couples. I love bringing out the silliness, emotions, and love in them. Most of all bringing out ‘themselves’ in the photo. I love working with sunflare and sunsets. I love LOVE.
- Making new friends. Really! Especially when they stay in touch with me after their wedding.
- I love being my own boss. I mean I work a lot more than the normal 9-5pm, but it’s so rewarding. Especially when I can stay in my pajamas.
NOW A LITTLE ABOUT ME
I grew up in Hawaii my whole lilfe, but I’m not ‘Hawaiian’…or Japanese (despite the last name).
I went to University of Manoa Hawaii for college majoring in Business and minored in Modern Dance. I remember the first time I learned in one of my business classes that Nokia wanted to add a camera to our cell phones. I thought it was the silliest idea…why would I need a camera on my phone? The only thing I could think of back then was if we got into a car accident, we could take a photo of the damage. Now I dont know what I’d do without my camera phone!
Modern dance was my first love for the arts. It was my outlet and a way to express myself through movement. I wanted to move to the states and pursue dancing but got into a car wreck that required surgery on my back and left me limited. Because I didnt get to pursue it, I felt like I missed out, especially when I watch ‘So you think you can dance’, but I LOVE my path now and wouldn’t have it any other way.
I teach zumba during the week. After my car accident, that’s what got me away from being bummed about my situation.
Family is everything to me. I have a great husband and a wonderful son…and one more on the way.
