Bridal Tips Series – Styling Tips and Tricks

Do you have an engagement session coming up and have no idea what the wear?  Don’t fear!  I’ve compiled a list of do’s and don’ts to make your engagement session less stressful and easier to plan!  Working together we can make your engagement dreams a reality. Whether at a beach or around town, these tips are sure to help you feel more put together for the camera.

  • Do incorporate your wedding colors or flowers.  It isn’t necessary, but it is a nice touch to wear something that ties in to your wedding.  The color of your dress, or a flower tucked in your ear are all lovely and subtle ways to incorporate your wedding motif.
  • Do check Pinterest for sample wardrobe and style ideas.  Pinterest has a plethora of styles to cater to everyone’s tastes.  It’s also a great place to get ideas for poses.   However!!!…
  • Don’t get caught in the Pinterest trap and feel like you have to conform to what you see online.  Use Pinterest as a base but mix it up to your own unique taste!
  • Do use soft or pastel colors if at the beach, or anything other than green in garden photos.  Green is beautiful but not if it blends in with the background.  In an urban setting, bright colors work well against the gray of buildings.
  • Don’t wear stark white or dark black!  Stark white and black can be too harsh, especially at the beach.  Ivory, cream, and varying shades of gray are much better choices.
  • Do stay away from Hawaiian prints or any bold and large prints or patterns.  We have nothing against them but it can be distracting in photos.
  • Don’t wear anything that you feel uncomfortable in.  Wear something that makes you feel happy and beautiful!  If you are uncomfortable, it will show in your photos.  Comfort always!
  • Do mix and match 1-3 colors.  Neutrals are always a good idea, and colors that coordinate with each other can really add that extra something to your whole look.
  • Don’t stress too much over it!  These sessions are meant to be fun.  In the end, everything will work out.
  • Do bring in any theme and traditions that are meaningful to you and your significant other.  If you have any props or tokens that you would like photographed, make sure to bring it! For example- if you both love football, bring a jersey, or if something sweet brought you together, we can find a way to incorporate it in your photos. picnic engagement at the beach with ramen
